pushing forward, keeping my hands and heart clean—a comedy. it’s okay to be misunderstood some of the time, but all of the time gets to be a problem—i have failed to communicate. when asked ‘are your castles crumbling?’ and i replied ‘down to the foundation, but i’ll build again,’ what i meant to say, was that in general, there is always the option to rebuild within the wild weeded lawns we’ve grown in our hearts. and still, the midnight conversations. he said he knew every word, but when i asked ‘will you put your arms around me, like a circle around the sun?’ he stared blankly and embraced me, not knowing what i was, or that i would burn right through him. though he’d remember it differently. ‘i know too much of great stories to make such transgressions,’ he said, supposing we all knew what happened to lucien de rubempré, a mix of hubris and jejune want that gets us all. dovetails. but really, in the dark, the total darkness that sets us adrift into the falling stars, like tiny stitches upon the seat of the sky, who’s to say there were words at all? if not kisses, those tight-fisted kisses, that relay anger just as much as love. and then what? another story.
